Term One 2008

Diversity’
E koekoe te tui,e ketekete te kaka e kuku te kereru
The tui sings, the kaka chatters, the pigeon coos.

Big Idea: To value diversity and encourage difference.

We have the power to accept, make a difference, support and encourage each other.

The concept of diversity encompasses acceptance and respect.
It means understanding that each individual is unique,
and recognising our individual differences.
It is about understanding each other and moving beyond
simple tolerance to embracing and celebrating the
rich dimensions of diversity contained within New Zealand.

Through this unit students will:
• Show an understanding that diversity is something to be celebrated.
• Appreciate diversity.
• Develop strategies which will strengthen relationships and provide the basis for a supportive environment, celebrating diversity.
• Show an appreciation of New Zealand’s culturally diverse nature.
• Create an inquiry report on a special group of people with in New Zealand.
